NEW FAMILY SEARCH

For the geographical area near the Oakland California Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (“LDS Church”), access to the New FamilySearch began February 5, 2008.  The original FamilySearch website is also available, but the revised version known as New FamilySearch has the original information with a user interface that combines the search functionality with the family tree functionality of Personal Ancestral File (PAF) and facilitates collaboration by allowing multi-user editing of the same tree.

New FamilySearch combines all prior submissions to the LDS Church (Ancestral File, Pedigree Resource File, live Temple ordinance data and the International Genealogical Index) with LDS Church membership data.   It provides new views of that data, methods of seeing all submissions and data from others, and methods of updating one’s own data by using that from others, all the while maintaining data integrity for each submitter.

Importantly, the new FamilySearch will shorten the number of steps to and simplify submissions for LDS ordinances in the Oakland and other temples.

In the rollout, initial users will be LDS Church members, followed by the general public (once the program demand and internet resources are balanced).  Our Center Family History Consultants and Ward Family History Consultants have been trained on-line, and will help you to use the new system.

New FamilySearch can be accessed at http://new.familysearch.org.

Instructions for reprinting temple cards originally generated using TempleReady can be found here.
